After two failed attempts, a meeting held at Midway Plaisance, on Wednesday, May 27, saw the election of officials for a Midway Park Advisory Council (PAC).

Bronwyn Nichols-Lodato was named president, Don McGruder was named vice president and Radiah Smith-Donald was assigned treasurer. Bylaws were discussed, voted on and submitted, along with membership applications and PAC registration forms, to the Chicago Park District.

During the meeting, officials criticized the Canadian National Railway’s lack of effort in cleaning the railway tracks running through the park from 54th to 60th streets. A petition was written and, after one month of circulation, will be forwarded to the Canadian National Railway.

On June 20, a Midway Park community clean up is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Midway PAC is hoping to get 20 volunteers to work at Stony Island Field and the upper fields between Woodlawn and Blackstone avenues.

On June 7, the Midway PAC will provide 57th Street Art Fair visitors with an historical tour of the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair on Midway Plaisance. The tour is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. from the ice rink.

The Midway PAC will also have a role to play in Make Music Chicago, an annual festival set for June 21. The Midway PAC will assist in the coordination of music performances set on park grounds.
