Long time Hyde Park resident, Denise Marie Denton, ascended to heaven on March 1, 2016.
Denton was born in Chicago on May 21, 1931 to the loving union of Henry Grady and Eula Mae Wesley. She married Howard, the love of her life, in 1957 and they later had two beautiful daughters—Cheryl and Dianne.
With husband Howard, Denton was an avid traveler who visited many countries across five continents, some more than once. She was a champion bridge player and brought home several trophies throughout the years.
In addition to travelling, Denton was very active in her church and her community. She was a dedicated Girl Scout Leader for several years, an integral part of the local grassroots campaign for Mayor Harold Washington, a member of the Hyde Park LA Fitness gym and she served on the social committee at her Cornell Village condominium where she happily resided with her husband for almost 20 years.
Denton is survived by her husband of 58 years, daughters, Cheryl (Steven) and Dianne; grandsons, Kevin and Jeffrey, and a loving group of family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. (pre-past at 10 a.m.) on Saturday, March 5th at Crerar Memorial Presbyterian Church, 8100 S. Calumet Avenue, Chicago, IL.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made in the name of Denise Marie Denton to:
