On Saturday afternoon, illustrator, author and food stylist Jessie Kanelos Weiner will lead a coloring workshop, and you don’t have to be a kid to join in.
The workshop will be held at 2 p.m. March 26 at 57th Street Books, 1301 E. 57th St. Weiner’s new book “Edible Paradise: A Coloring Book of Seasonal Fruits and Vegetables” will inspire the workshop’s activities. The event is co-sponsored by the Hyde Park Art Center.
“Edible Paradise” is geared towards an older coloring crowd, as adult coloring has become a popular hobby for the kid in all of us to slow down, pay attention and relax through the act of coloring.
Adult coloring books are more intricate than the ones we were used to as children, with intricate designs and details geared towards mindfulness. According to the American Art Therapy Association, coloring books, “provide a controlled, contained use of art for self-soothing purposes, and their success-oriented nature is conducive to fulfillment of the need for instant gratification.”
