Friday, Sept.16, during the final performance of the Jazz in the Courtyard series at Harper Court, new neighbors, The Obama Foundation, set up a welcome station to “introduce ourselves to our neighbors in the community,” said Michael Strautmanis, vice president of community relations.

Consultants with the foundation had tables set up with complimentary merchandise consisting of mechanical pencils, church fans and bumper stickers.

“We just want the community to know the foundation is here, we have come home,” said foundation consultant Desiree Tate.

There was also an opportunity for anyone that stopped by the welcome station to give their name and contact information for the email list so they can be kept abreast of any foundation developments.

“I think it is a very nice gesture,” said Hyde Park resident Betty V. Holcomb. “Reaching out to the community like this is a great idea.”

The Obama Foundation is located at 5235 S. Harper Court across from the Hyde Park Bank building.
