In game two of the Chicago Public League City playoffs, the Kenwood Academy High School Broncos boys basketball team fell to the Whitney Young High School Mighty Dolphins, 80-58 in their great elite eight playoff match up on Wednesday Feb. 15.
In the first half, the Broncos would fall behind early by the scores of 5-0, 7-0 and 10-1, finally scratching the scoreboard after a successful free throw attempt was made by small forward Najee Turner with 5:34 remaining in the first quarter. Turner would only make one out of two from the free throw line.
In spite of falling behind by as many as nine points, the Broncos would make a run of their own. Thanks to the hot shooting of senior guard Bryson Langdon, who earned his team a one point lead at 11-10 with 2:34 late in the quarter. Langdon finished with a team high 17 points.
After a suffocating defensive effort by the Mighty Dolphins, who’s defense helped generate a 15-point lead at the half at 42-27. The Broncos would fall prey again to multiple turnovers, low energy and a slow start. This includes a high power offensive effort led by Mighty Dolphins leading scorer Lucas Williamson, who led all scorers with 25 points, giving his team a 22-point victory at 80-58 to end the game.
Final Score: Whitney Young 80, Kenwood 58
With the loss, the Broncos were eliminated from playoff contention.
