Eugene (Gene) Williams passed away February 6, 2017, after a bout with pneumonia he was 84. Williams known to friends and family as Gendu the Magician was a long time Hyde Park resident with many talents.
Williams served in the Korean War. He conducted research for hair care products for the Gillette Company then launched his own beauty shop in Hyde Park. For 38 years he was a Tai Chi master, he exercised often running daily in the old Harper Court.
Other passions for Williams included cooking and magic. After retiring he was a magician full time, entertaining guests from all over the country. In Chicago he performed at the Blackstone Hotel, 636 S. Michigan Ave., and annually for the last 10 years at the 4th on 53rd Parade and Picnic.
One of Gene’s favorite phrases was “we all live inside of infinity.”
He is survived by his wife of 10 years, Tisa Williams.
An informal memorial get-together will be held at the Nichols Park field house, 1355 E. 53rd St., on Saturday, March 11, from 1p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
