Thanks to five scoreless innings, three hits and seven strikeouts by pitcher Diego Munoz, the Mt. Carmel High School Caravan prevailed over Catholic League rivals Marist High School 6-5 on Sunday afternoon, April 2, at Caravan Field, 6410 S. Dante Ave.

In the first inning, the Caravan’s offense would jump out to an early 3-0 lead after multiple hits were surrendered to outfielder Alek Thomas and infielder Zion Pettigrew, who would combine for four hits against Marist High School pitching.

In addition to a three run first inning, the Caravan would score another run thanks to an RBI double by pitcher Diego Munoz, who helped earn his team a 4-0 lead while pitching consecutive scoreless innings.

Over his next three frames, Munoz would not only steal the show with his own bat, but would deliver a pitching performance for the ages, by shutting down the Marist offense with zero runs in five innings, in route to victory.

Final Score: Mt. Carmel 6, Marist 5

With the victory, the Caravan improved to 6-1 on the season.

Hyde Park Herald Player of The Game: Diego Munoz, Mt. Carmel, 7 strikeouts, five scoreless innings and 0 earned runs.
