U.of C. men’s baseball team upset Finlandia University

The University of Chicago Maroons men’s baseball team improved to 14-5 on the season after an 11-4 victory over Finlandia University on Saturday afternoon, April 8, at Stagg Field, 5530 S. Ellis Ave.

In the first inning, the Maroons would jump out to an early lead of 1-0, thanks to a throwing error by Finlandia University. Giving the Maroons an early edge from the start.  

In the third inning, the Maroons added two more runs after outfielder Nicholas Toomey drove in runners in scoring position with an RBI double. Earning his team a 3-0 lead to end the inning.

After building a 4-0 lead, the Maroons pitching staff would surrender four additional runs in the top of the inning, tying the game at 4-4.

In spite their pitching staff surrendering four runs in one inning, the Maroons offense would respond again with three RBI singles in the bottom of the inning, coming from second basemen Tim Sonnefeldt, outfielder Connor Hickey and third baseman Max Larsen. All three players would contribute to the teams 11 runs and 13 hits in the victory.

Final Score: U.of C. 11, Fin. U 4

With the win, the Maroons improved to 14-5 on the season.
