Search is back on for IOP executive director

The University of Chicago’s Institute of Politics (IOP) is resuming its search for a new executive director to lead the Institute, according to an email to the IOP community from Institute Director David Axelrod.

In June, Adrian Talbott was appointed to the role succeeding Steve Edwards who has been with IOP since its 2012 launch. Edwards left earlier this month to become vice president and chief content officer for WBEZ 91.5.

“Adrian has withdrawn for personal reasons,” Axelrod said in the letter. “I have enjoyed getting to know him and wish him all the best in the future.”

Talbott had worked previously with the U. of C. Office of Civic Engagement for three years, where he helped with strategic planning and development of various civic engagement initiatives.

The IOP will conduct a national search to fill the role. In the interim, Matthew Jaffe, senior manager and communications director at IOP, will serve as executive director.

Jaffe previously worked as a political producer for ABC News and “managed all written and video content at the IOP for the past three and a half years and has worked closely with me as executive producer of “The Axe Files” podcast since its inception,” wrote Axelrod.
