To the Editor:
I have been a member and financial contributor to the Jackson Park Advisory Council for many years. I must say that I am confused and disappointed that they have apparently decided to accept and support the desires of the Chicago Park District and the Chicago Parks Golf Alliance without offering any misgivings. It is apparent to many that the desires of the former do not benefit the community’s access to the park and the finances required are not being reported truthfully.
I would like to point out that the President of the Jackson Park Advisory Council, Louise McCurry, was shown in the November 30, 2014 edition of the Hyde Park Herald observing the damage to the shoreline at 50th Street and Lake Shore Drive and requesting that the Chicago Park District move forward with repairs to this area. I do believe that this must be addressed prior to preventing flooding at the South Shore Country Club Park’s 3rd hole , which might affect a few elite golfers who would play the Tiger Woods golf course.
I call on the hierarchy of the Jackson Park Advisory Council to take into consideration the common folk who visit and utilize Jackson Park rather than the elite who can afford to pay to play at what the Chicago Golf Alliance desires.
