On Monday, Oct. 9 residents will have the opportunity to purchase books from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. The sale will take place at the in the courtyard of the Lake Park Shopping Center on Lake Park Avenue and 55th Street.
Donations for the sale started on Aug. 13, and were just capped on Oct. 1. During this time volunteers have sorted and organized thousands of titles. According to the conference’s website, the sale usually showcases over 30,000 books spanning 50 subject areas. For the most part, prices range from 50 cents to $2.
Teachers or non-profit organizations looking for free books can contact the conference ahead of time to work out a time to collect books during the sale. Organizations like churches, shelters, nursing homes, and schools are encouraged to contact the conference ahead of time as well if interested in collecting free books following the sale’s conclusion on Monday.
The book sale is currently the primary fundraising operation for HPKCC. Money from the sale goes to support local institutions such as parks, schools and neighborhood events and activities.
