The South East Chicago Commission (SECC) in collaboration with Downtown Hyde Park will kick off a “Small Business Saturday” event on Saturday, Nov. 25, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. to help steer shoppers to support small businesses.
According to a statement by the SECC, shoppers are encouraged to take advantage of special discounts while being entertained with free refreshments, chances of winning up to $100 dollar gift certificates, and live music by Chicago’s own Low End Theory Drum Ensemble and DJ Kwest_On.
“It’s up to us to support our favorite neighborhood shops, restaurants, and businesses,” said Wendy Walker Williams, executive director of the SECC. “When our residents spend their hard-earned dollars with local small businesses, the entire community wins.”
Williams said that the event would be held in five mid-south side Chicago neighborhoods including Hyde Park, Kenwood, Oakland, Washington Park and Woodlawn.
Williams also said that the kickoff event will take include the following locations: Skidoe’s Café and Grill at 10 a.m., 235 E. 51st St.; Pearle Vision at 11 a.m., 1200 E. 53rd St.; Jojayden Shoes & Accessories at 11:30 a.m., 1457 E. 53rd St.; The Connection at noon, 4321 S. Cottage Grove Ave.; Alyce Shoe Lyfe at 2 p.m., 6431 S. Cottage Grove Ave.; and Carver 47 Café @ Little Black Pearl at 3 p.m., 1060 E. 47th St.
The event will be sponsored by Bank of America and PNC Bank and supported by the 51st Street Business Association, City of Chicago Business Affairs Consumer Protection (BACP), Quad Communities Development Corporation (QCDC) and the SECC Business District Improvement Program.
The SECC’s, Small Business Saturday kick-off event is designed to encourage neighborhood residents to shop locally and with small businesses.
