Man arrested in connection to carjacking on Cornell Avenue

A 23-year-old Aseante Armstrong has been arrested and charged with two felony counts, vehicular hijacking and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon for his role in a carjacking that took place, on Monday, Nov. 20, in the 5300 block of Cornell Avenue.

The victim, a 46-year-old man, parked his vehicle, a 2010 silver Dodge Charger in the 5300 block of South Cornell Avenue, when two people approached, one was armed with a handgun, according to the University of Chicago Police Department.

The suspects ordered the victim from the car. The suspects then got into the car and drove off southbound on Cornell Avenue.

In a Nov. 28 statement, Chicago Police named Armstrong as one of the offenders.

According to the statement, police arrested Armstrong on Monday, Nov. 27 and the victim identified Armstrong.

Police located Armstrong on the 1300 block of East 53rd Street yesterday afternoon, and after a short foot pursuit he was apprehended and placed into custody.

Armstrong was found to be in possession of a blue steel handgun, loaded with a 30 round extended magazine.

The victim reported no physical injuries.
