Friends of Ray School Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) announced on March 4 that the William H. Ray School community had received a $10,000 gift from Ray graduate Mary Graham.

The gift was made to the school in honor of her parents, Betty and Bob Wissler, longtime residents of Hyde Park.

Graham, along with her three siblings, attended William H. Ray Elementary, 5631 S. Kimbark Ave., and credits the school with preparing her well for Hyde Park High School and Harvard University.

With her donation, Graham commented, “most valuable was the opportunity to learn with children of different backgrounds and cultures.”

The former Ray alum added that she was pleased to know that Ray continues to provide excellent educational opportunities to a diverse student body today.

“I know that at Ray we are part of a unique community, a Chicago Public School that has an active PTO and several fundraising efforts every year,” said Domonique Battle, president of Friends of Ray PTO. “I feel fortunate to be a part of a community that is able to give (time, talent and treasure) and our school community is thankful that Mary Graham had it in her heart to give at that level to Ray School.”

Friends of Ray School PTO, in consultation with Ray administration, plans to use the funds donated in honor of the Wisslers to upgrade the audio-visual systems in the school auditorium.
