Hyde Park Academy High School Students create mural for SOPHY Hotel

The SOPHY Hotel Hyde Park in partnership with Hyde Park Academy High School will unveil a new student art installation project for the hotel on Monday, March 19, from 10:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. The event will take place at Hyde Park High School, 6220 S. Stony Island Ave.

The artwork of the students will be installed as a colorful outdoor gallery in front of the hotel site at 1411 East 53rd St. The mural will serve as a fixed exhibition wall that will remain on view throughout the construction phase. 

The project will also feature 60 original works of art by the Hyde Park Academy High School art students, individually created to celebrate the Hyde Park community and express the inspiring intellectual, artistic and cultural innovations that are part of Hyde Park’s rich history.

Guest who will attend the unveiling event include: Student Muralists from Hyde Park Academy High School, Principal Hyde Park Academy High School Antonio D. Ross, Ald. Leslie A. Hairston (5th), General Manager of SOPHY Hotel Hyde Park and Hyde Park Academy alumnus Anthony Beach and President of Trinal, Inc. and facilitator of the mural project Alica Garcia-Abner.

The new 98-room boutique hotel is currently under construction in Hyde Park with a scheduled opening date for summer 2018.
