Independent candidate Denise Hill to run against Tarver for 25th District seat in general election

After winning the Democratic March 20, Primary election for State Representative of the 25th District, Curtis Tarver II will run unopposed by a Republican candidate in the upcoming general election on Tuesday Nov. 6, but he may have Denise Hill as a challenger running as an Independent .

Hill, former chair of the Hyde Park Kenwood Community Council and Ray Elementary School Local School Council, will try to run as an Independent against Tarver for the seat currently occupied by State Rep. and Democratic Majority Leader Barbara Flynn Currie (D-25), who is retiring.

The Illinois 25th House District includes Hyde Park, Kenwood, Woodlawn, South Shore, South Chicago and East Side.

Hill, announced her plan to run as an independent last January in a interview with the Herald.

To be a candidate in the fall election Hill will have to collect voter signatures on nominating petitions

The filing dates for petitions for Independent candidates is June 18 -25.

Hill said she will focus her platform on dealing with economic security, education and environmental issues in the 25th District.

As a resident of Hyde Park for over five years, Hill has served as parent representative and chair on the local school council board for Ray Elementary School back in 2014 and was elected chairwoman of the Hyde Park Kenwood Community Council from May 2014 to May 2015.
