The University of Chicago Maroons’ Nicole VacaGuzman earned first-place in the women’s 400-meter race, last Thursday, on the final day of the North Central College Invitational meet held in Naperville, Ill.

VacaGuzman finished her race with a time of 55.92 seconds to claim the Maroons’ only title of the day. By winning this meet she broke her own record.

The time was her best of the season, earning her a likely qualifying time for the upcoming NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships where she currently stands 10th in the nation.

In addition to VacaGuzman’s accomplishments, the Maroon women’s track and field team captured eight Top 10 finishes throughout Thursday’s event, as sophomore Mary Martin finished third in both the 200 (25.61 seconds) and long jump, where she leaped a lifetime-best 5.49 meters. Also claiming a third-place finish was sophomore Laura Darcey in the heptathlon (4,398 points), followed by a fourth-place finish by teammate Olivia Cattau with 4,322 points.
