Washington Park vs. Jackson Park

To the Editor:

All things being equal, Washington Park would be the ideal location for the Obama Presidential Center (OPC). Vast amounts of unused space on the west side of King Drive between 51st and 55th streets are ripe for development.

But all things are NOT equal. The east side of King Drive [in Washington Park] is graced by the only arboretum in a Chicago park, containing a variety of old growth trees from pre-settlement days. It would be a shame to lose them.

Furthermore, how would the Security Services respond to siting the OPB just a few hundred feet from the very public Green Line “L” trains. President Obama and all he represents must be protected at all costs.
