On Monday June 18, The Joy in Childhood Foundation hosted the unveiling of its first Starlight Site — a new, pediatric therapy kitchen at La Rabida Children’s Hospital. The kitchen is a space for La Rabida patients and their families to cook and enjoy time together.

“Whether treatment rooms, teen lounges, playrooms, gardens, or other healing spaces, these kitchens transform sterile hospital environments into brighter and happier spaces for pediatric patients,” said La Rabida in a written statement.

During the event, representatives from La Rabida, Starlight Children’s Foundation and Joy in Childhood Foundation, including Dunkin’ Brands CEO Nigel Travis and President Dave Hoffmann, celebrated the new kitchen as part of an officially-designated “Day of Joy.” Pediatric patients also attended and were the first to experience the kitchen and create a dessert for attendees.

This is the first of 10 Starlight Sites that the Joy in Childhood Foundation will create to spread joy to pediatric patients in hospitals nationwide.
