Don’t discourage those who question the OPC project

To the Editor:

Regardless of the Herald’s position on the Obama Presidential Center (OPC) locating itself in Jackson Park, last week’s Herald opinion piece masquerading as a front-page news item should make you squirm. You could have reported a selection of views on the ProtectOurParks lawsuit from various qualified lawyers. You could have explored the legal issues of due process and open disclosure that are present in the lawsuit. You could have examined the progress of the on-going federal NEPA (National Environmental Policy Act) and NHPA (National Historic Preservation Act) reviews.

That’s what a community newspaper with an independent voice might have done. But nope, the point of the article was to discourage anyone who might have concerns about the OPC from thinking their voice would be taken seriously.
