Chicago restaurateur Robby Glick plans to open a branch of Reggies, his South Loop restaurant and performance venue at the 63rd Street Beach House, 6245 S. Lake Shore Dr. He recently received a permit to do $288,000 in renovations from the city.
Glick said “Reggies on the Beach” may open in two phases. The first part, a restaurant and full bar featuring window and waiter service, covered outdoor seating, hotdogs, brats, its “famous” wings, salads and vegetarian dishes, may open at the close of this year’s season.
Should the initial Reggies restaurant and bar miss that deadline, they will open at the beginning of next summer along with a 50-by-60 square foot deck on the sand with a stage and an additional bar, inspired by the South Loop location’s rooftop space.
“We’re going to do our best to do it this year,” said Glick, who added they were eager to “get our feet wet.”
“Just being on the beach itself is something that we really want to do. There’s some competition up north; there’s really not a lot of competition down south,” Glick added. He hopes to attract Hyde Parkers and joggers and cyclists using the Lakefront Trail as customers and expressed interest in hiring a local workforce.
“I’m hoping people will enjoy what we build and take advantage of what we have to offer,” Glick said.
The permit to renovate an existing kitchen and construct a new bar and deck was issued on June 13. A revision was filed a week later with another plumbing contractor, according to data online at Chicago Cityscape.
