Memorial service set for long-time Hyde Park resident Joseph Notkin

Joseph (Joey) Notkin died suddenly on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 in Fairbanks, Alaska. Notkin, who was born and raised in South Shore and Hyde Park, was known for his warm and generous nature.

He attended Horace Mann Elementary School and the University of Chicago Lab School, and he was a Camp Martin Johnson camper for many years. A resident of Fairbanks, Notkin had lived in Thailand before moving to Alaska.

Notkin is survived by his fiancée Margot Horn; his sister, Deborah Notkin and brother-in-law Van Jacobs; his brother Richard (Dick) Notkin and wife Phoebe Toll; his son Peter Notkin and wife Jasmine; and four grandchildren. Notkin’s parents died some years ago.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, July 29, at 3 p.m. at KAM/Isaiah Israel Synagogue, 1100 E. Hyde Park Blvd., where the Notkin Family were members and Joey Notkin had his Bar Mitzvah and confirmation.

The family encourages memorial donations be made to the Lab School scholarship fund in lieu of sending flowers.
