Mr. T’s Shoe Service, 1007 E. 53rd St., is closed. The cash-only cobbler known for its whirlwind interior, shoe shining and replacement of soles and heels had been open for at least a decade.

As of last Friday, the store’s windows had been papered over, with a sign by Mac Properties announcing the office or retail space was for lease. A Chicago Department of Buildings permit, issued on Sept. 5, was on display, listing plans for a floor replacement, drop ceiling tile repair and the installation of 600 square feet of drywall.

Chris Curse, a stylist at the neighboring Page Too Hair Design salon, 1007½ E. 53rd St., said Mr. T’s was out of business on Sept. 1.
