The University of Chicago Police Department (UCPD) reported the following incidents between Jan. 14 and Jan. 17.

On Monday, Jan. 14, at 10 p.m., a 22-year-old suspect grabbed a victim walking at 1451 E. 52nd St. by the neck and went through his pockets, attempting to take property. They struggled; the victim was able to take his property back, and the suspect was taken into custody by the Chicago Police after fleeing.

On Tuesday, Jan. 15, at 11:40 a.m., a UCPD officer detained an individual who had taken merchandise from Target, 1346 E. 53rd St., without paying; the management declined to prosecute.

On Jan. 15 at 10:44 p.m., two suspects, described as black men armed with handguns, took property from two victims walking at 5312 S. Cornell Ave. and fled in a waiting dark-colored sedan. The Chicago Police are investigating.

On Wednesday, Jan. 16, at 12:35 a.m., two suspects armed with handguns followed a victim into an apartment building on the 5100 South block of Harper Avenue from a dark-colored sedan and demanded his jacket before fleeing in a waiting vehicle when a witness appeared and security was alerted. No one is in custody; the Chicago Police are investigating.

On Thursday, Jan. 17, at 6:12 a.m., an in-car license plate reader notified a UCPD officer that an unoccupied vehicle parked at 5044 S. Drexel Blvd. had been reported stolen in Dolton, Illinois, and was turned over to that village’s police.

On Jan. 17 at 6:20 p.m., two suspects forcibly took a wallet from a person walking at 5400 S. Hyde Park Blvd. The Chicago Police are investigating.

Incidents reported between Jan. 18 and Jan. 20 will run in the Jan. 30 print edition of the Herald: the UCPD did not report them by press time due to Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
