To the Editor:
As an attendee of The Silver Room Block Party and as a Hyde Park Resident, I would appreciate it if you would not put out the narrative that the event is unsafe. When the title of an article about “safety” is printed about an event run by a predominately African-American team, and attended by large groups of African-Americans, the undertone suggests that these groups of people must cause safety issues for the rest of the community.
I think there should be a follow-up article asking community stakeholders, restauranteurs, and business owners to explain why they refuse to donate to an event that they ultimately profit from when all of these “unsafe” people patronize their businesses and pay for their goods and services.
