Thanks for a glorious 4th on 53rd Parade

To the Editor:

The 4th on 53rd Independence Day parade was its usual rousing success.  So many marching groups, so many youngsters with streamers on their bikes, trikes and scooters!  My hat’s off to the Nichols Park Advisory Council, the 4th on 53rd Committee and all the other organizers.  Congratulations on a job well done.

I was honored to serve as Grand Marshal of the parade.  It was a thrill.  I’m grateful to my charioteer, Terrence Fields, proprietor of the Star Status Barber Shop, 1702 E. 55th Street.  Terrence, also known as Red, dusted off his vintage 1968 Cadillac Eldorado and squired me along the parade route in style.

Our 4th on 53rd festivities are a great neighborhood tradition.  We celebrate the work of the federal Constitutional Convention even as we continue to work to create a more perfect union.  We also celebrate the diversity and the strength of our own community.  Many thanks to the marchers—and to the watchers!
