The University of Chicago Police Department (UCPD) reported the following incidents as having occurred between July 29 and Aug. 4.

On Monday, July 29, at 9:31 a.m., police received a report of a suspect forced open a basement door at an apartment at 908 E. 61st St. and stole various items.

On July 29 at 11:26 a.m., police received a report of a bullet shattering the rear window of a vehicle parked at 5601 S. Drexel Ave.

On Tuesday, July 30, at 7:55 a.m., police received a report of unknown persons forcing entry to a residential garage on the 5600 South block of Woodlawn Avenue and stealing a bicycle. The Chicago Police are investigating.

On July 30 at 4:02 p.m., Chicago Police officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert on the 6300 South block of Greenwood Avenue; upon arrival, they spoke with a male witness who said he had parked his vehicle in front of his residence and observed an unknown black vehicle parked in front of him. The witness said a male offender stepped out of the black vehicle and began shooting at the black vehicle, which then drove away. The offender fled on foot. Two victims self-transported to the U. of C. Medical Center (UCMC) with gunshot wounds but were uncooperative with officers.

On Friday, Aug. 2, at 3:15 p.m., a male suspect armed with a handgun approached a victim who was placing equipment in his work vehicle on the street at 5401 S. Cornell Ave. and demanded the victim’s car keys. The suspect drove northbound on Cornell Avenue but later abandoned it; officers recovered it due to its internal GPS. The Chicago Police are investigating.

On Saturday, Aug. 3, at 5 p.m., shots were fired in the direction of individuals at 910 E. 58th St. Occupants of a black vehicle traveling on Cottage Grove Avenue were chasing and shooting at occupants of a silver vehicle. No one was shot, but one of the occupants of the silver vehicle, an 8-year-old child, received a hand laceration from broken glass. The suspects fled the scene, but, over the course of the follow-up investigation, Chicago Police officers arrested a suspect believed to have been the primary offender and charged him with aggravated assault with a firearm.

On Sunday. Aug. 4, at 1:50 a.m., a U. of C. student was approached from behind by a suspect and struck on the back of the head. The suspect fled on foot in an unknown direction. Chicago Fire Department emergency medical services transported the victim to the UCMC for treatment. The UCPD is investigating the incident and increased its presence in the area.

On Aug. 4 at 1:45 a.m., a patient struck and kicked a staff member at the UCMC, 5656 S. Maryland Ave., was arrested by the UCPD and charged with felony battery to a protected employee

On Aug. 4 at 10:45 p.m., two suspects took property from a person who had just left the Metra station and was walking on the sidewalk at 1130 E. 53rd St. before fleeing on foot. The Chicago Police are investigating.

On Aug. 4 at 11:24 p.m., two suspects, one armed with a handgun, took property from two victims walking on the sidewalk at 5302 S. Hyde Park Blvd. The Chicago Police are investigating.
