1 arrested after Sunday night robbery spree
Three teenagers on bicycles robbed one victim and attempted to rob two more Sunday night in Hyde Park. University of Chicago Police Department (UCPD) officers detained a suspect, whom the victim positively identified. Stolen items were recovered, and the robber has been charged.
At 10:15 p.m., the suspects forcibly stole a wallet from the victim, who was walking at 5457 S. Blackstone Ave. They fled northbound on their bikes.
At 10:20, the suspects approached a pedestrian at 5136 S. Kimbark Ave. and asked for money, but the victim fled. The suspects then demanded property from a third pedestrian at 1005 E. Hyde Park Blvd. at 10:25 p.m., but the victim walked away and called the UCPD.
The UCPD also reported the following incidents between Sept. 9 and Sept. 15.
On Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 5 a.m., the UCPD arrested a suspect who placed a staffer at the University of Chicago Medical Center in fear of battery.
On Friday, Sept. 13, at 9:15 p.m. a parked, unoccupied vehicle at 6017 S. Harper Ave. was damaged by gunfire. No injuries were reported, and the Chicago Police are investigating.
On Sept. 15 at 5:05 p.m., UCPD officers detained two suspects on the 5400 South block of Drexel Avenue wanted for an off-campus burglary, who were turned over to and arrested by the Chicago Police.
